Citrus Canker*

Citrus canker was first detected on west Guadalcanal in 2010 and since then delimiting surveys have established it is only present on Guadalcanal west of the capital Honiara. Elsewhere it is found in Asia, South America, Africa, Oceania (Fiji). There are four strains with different distributions. Australia and New Zealand are free of the disease.

Cassava Bacterial Blight*

First reported in Solomon Islands in August 2015 from Malaita, there are no reports from elsewhere in Solomon Islands. It is recorded extensively in South and Southeast Asia, throughout Africa, South and Central America, the Caribbean, Oceania. It has been recorded in Guam, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau.

Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle

The coconut rhinoceros beetle (CRB), Oryctes rhinoceros, was discovered in Honiara in January 2015. The outbreak is focussed in residential areas of Honiara but symptoms have been reported in palms several kilometres east and west of Honiara.

Giant African Snail

The giant African snail (GAS) causes economic damage to a wide range of crops and ornamentals, vegetable crops are severely affected. Homeowners and market gardeners are all impacted and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has been assisting by supplying snail baits to all requesting them.
